Liza Schillo
Liza Schillo has dedicated her career to advancing sustainability across the corporate, entrepreneurial, and nonprofit spaces. Her journey began in Washington, D.C., where she worked on Capitol Hill for Congressman Walt Minnick and on impact initiatives at World Wildlife Fund and other nonprofits.
For the past decade, Liza has held leadership roles in corporate sustainability, largely focused on retail sustainability and most notably at Levi Strauss & Co. At LS&Co., she led the development of the company’s first science-based climate target, setting a new industry benchmark. She also crafted a comprehensive climate action plan, engaging more than 100 key Tier 1 and Tier 2 suppliers in climate and water targets and achieving LEED certifications for multiple distribution centers. Liza established the company’s impact disclosure program, overseeing the publication of LS&Co.’s first annual sustainability report, aligned with GRI, TCFD, and SASB standards. She led the creation of LS&Co.’s sustainable fiber strategy, which centered on responsibly sourced cotton, and developed a process for substantiating product sustainability claims.
Liza continued her path in sustainability as Director of Sustainability at Perfect Day, a pioneer in alternative dairy protein. There, she identified and prioritized the company’s most material sustainability issues, developed a social and environmental stewardship strategy, and collaborated with Marketing and Sales teams to translate their company’s key product lifecycle assessment into meaningful communications to enhance customer and consumer engagement.
Most recently, Liza served as Global Retail Lead at Cargill, partnering with major retailers like Walmart and Costco to develop strategies for reducing shared environmental footprints. Her work emphasized regenerative and traceable agricultural processes to address critical issues around carbon, water, and biodiversity.
Today, Liza is the founder of Lamplight Sustainability, a consulting firm dedicated to helping companies uncover value by navigating complex sustainability challenges. She draws on 15 years of experience to guide corporate clients in building impactful sustainability strategies.
Liza holds an MBA and a Master of Environmental Management from Duke University and a Bachelor’s degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. As an undergrad, she founded the nation’s first environmental honors fraternity, Epsilon Eta. Liza is an avid mountain biker, yogi, and global traveler.
